The Wood Refinishing Process

Hardwood floors are a popular choice for many homeowners due to the durability, beauty, and timeless appeal that they provide. Step 1 - Assess Condition

The first step in the process is when our team assesses the condition of your floors. We start by coming to your home and inspecting for gaps, cracks, stains, or other signs of damage that may need to be repaired or resolved before the restoration can begin. If there are any major damages, such as severe water damage or warping, we may recommend replacing some portions or planks.

Step 2 - Sanding

Once any repairs or replacements have been completed, the next step is sanding. Sanding is an essential part of the process, as it removes the top layer of the floor's finish and any scratches or imperfections that may have developed over time. The sanding process is executed in several stages.  We start with coarse-grit sandpaper and gradually work up to finer-grit sandpaper in order to create an even, smooth, flat surface.

Step 3 - Apply Stain

Once the sanding process is done, it's time to apply a stain and finish. This is where homeowners can get creative and choose from a variety of colors and finishes. You can change the look of your home rather significantly by just changing the stain.  Our technicians will walk you through the choices you have and provide samples so that you can compare the final looks.  There are also different finishes to choose from, such as glossy, matte, or satin, depending on your preferences. These finishes play a large role in the overall look and feel of your flooring, from more traditional to modern looks. 

Step 4 - Allow Dry Time

Once the stain and finish have been applied, it is drying time.  It is important that homeowners allow the newly finished wood to dry completely before normal household activity can resume. This can take several hours to a full day, and the length of time depends on the type of finish used and the humidity levels in the home.  During the drying time, we emphasize to the homeowners that it is important to keep the floors free from foot traffic, pets, and other potential sources of damage.
